What are the 6 rules of Pilates?

 

Hi all, I’m going to tell you about the main man in another blog but today I’ll explain how my Pilates classes flow.

Joseph Pilates did not mention these 6 points, but instructors have articulated them as a teaching aid. They help within your class to do each exercise a different way, to slow down and not to power through everything like we tend to do in life or fitness exercises.

Here are the 6 commonly used principles –

Concentration

Control

Core

Flow

Precision

Breathing

 

In each class I try to remind you to connect your mind to your body, to say move a limb from your core – not to move your leg from your leg, not to be distracted from the actual exercise by moving a different part of your body – if that makes sense!

Don’t worry, you don’t need coordination (I don’t have much either!).  You just need an understanding of how Pilates is SOOOO good for your body and mind and I’m hoping to explain this in my blogs!
