Astral Travel Open If You Are: I can’t say I have ever experienced Astral Travel though I was one occasion asked had I been Astral Travelling by a Palliative Care Nurse on the way back from a funeral reception. I have to admit at the time I had never heard of such a thing, and my only response was, “not that I am aware of”.

Editors note: Before Greg continues with his article, we feel it is important that we give the spiritual warnings and safety brief. We do not encourage anyone to try and Astral travel regardless of what someone on the internet is telling us. We never force Astral travel, if it happens organically then fine but trying to force it or practice will lead those who try in dangerous territory. We will never know what we may pick up or bring back with us at a minimum. If you wish to know more about this then come and speak with us on the next LifeBalance Day of Healing.

I was aware at the time of the term Out of Body Experience (OBE) or Near-Death Experience (NDE) but Astral Travel was certainly a new one to me although I am aware they a near enough the same thing.
***
Some ancient writers described experiences or beliefs that would be recognized as out-of-body experiences (OBEs).
***
Plato theorized that the soul is separate from the body and can survive death, which is the basis of the concept of the soul migrating after death, but this is a philosophical belief and was not a description of a personal experience.
***
Plotinus’s writings include descriptions of out-of-body phenomena, and he wrote about such experiences. His philosophy emphasized the soul’s connection to a higher spiritual realm, and his experiences and teachings are considered foundational to Neoplatonism, a school of philosophy that explores such spiritual journeys.
***
Philo of Alexandria speaks of a “rapture of soul” where he was “borne aloft in the heights” and “accompanied the revolutions of the sun, moon, and all heaven,” which suggests a subjective experience of separation from the physical self.
***
Accounts from early Christianity and Judaism, such as Apostle Paul who describes an experience in 2 Corinthians 12:1–4 where he was “caught up to the third heaven” and into paradise, hearing “inexpressible words”.
***
Liverpool actor Stephen Graham described a particular experience of an OBE episode when he was 18 and performing a monologue on stage. He described how he saw himself outside of his own body. “I was watching myself stand at the front of the stage talking to the audience, but I was up at the top of the gantry. It was really weird”.
***
As you can see it is a phenomenon that has been talked about throughout the ages.
***
The following was recounted to me by my youngest brother whose friend had recently had one such experience. I have left the names out of the story, so the story will simply refer to their initials P and his former friend R.
***
P recounted the details of what happened next primarily via recorded video message. Having his full permission the following transcribes his words exactly.
***
P, reported to an extraordinary experience. He categorised it as a dream but as you will see what he described appears in fact to match accounts of out of body and near-death experiences. I found it all very interesting and thought I would share it with you all.
***
P’s friend R, had died suddenly in his mid-40s last June.
***
P had flown to a Columbian Island in the Amazonian Rainforest which is up towards Jamaica.
Just before his trip P was informed of R’s passing via a friend on Instagram that they both used to know.
***
Whilst on the island the group of tourists were shown around the island by a trained guide. At one point they came to a tree and the guide informed them all that it was a spiritual tree. The locals didn’t pray to the tree but respected it very much. The locals would talk to the tree and ask for help with healing etc.
***
P thinking of his former friend suddenly became very emotional and started crying next to the said tree. P felt very touched by the energy from the tree and the passing of his friend R.
***
That night P went to bed and I dreamt about R. He recalls in his dream he remembered being “guided” into a place that he would never ever have been able to get there if he was human. He describes he could see himself moving backward and forward like he was being guided, almost like being shifted from side to side, like getting through some type of barrier of some sort. P recalled someone was going “Come on. You’ve got to do this”, like it was helping him get to a place he needs to be.
***
He then kind of appeared in a living room with a huge fireplace, there were sofas on either side and R was just laying on one of the sofa’s and then jumped up. P noticed R didn’t appear to have any legs. R just faded into nothing from about the waist area. R looked so surprised, and he was, like “you’re here!? What are you doing here?”.
***
P replied, “I have no idea!” They hugged each other and it was all very emotional. P recalls that R had a star around his neck, not like a Star of David, just a star shape. It was very prominent, and it looked very clear. They talked for a bit and that’s when the bowl thing happened. He wanted to say sorry, and he wanted to help me, but it felt really rushed, like they didn’t have a lot of time. That’s when R pulled out a bowl which had a label object inside the bowl. It said something “self-loathing” , “self-hate”, or something around self-destruction.
***
R said to P “you need to let that go”. He then took out the object from the bowl and threw it. P described the object as sort of like a long stone or scroll. R was holding on the bowl, but it was all blurred. His friend R was looking at P in the eye and was like “THIS needs to go!” P was like “ok. Ok.”
***
Then R took P outside, he was showing him around in a way. The feeling that other people were there too. Everyone was so happy, and P felt euphoric! Everyone was laughing. Nobody had legs but everyone was like, they were in “water”, or maybe plasma, or something. Everyone was trying to splash each other but they couldn’t, because of the texture of this thing they were surrounded in. It wasn’t just water on the ground, it was everywhere. Everyone was “playing” P supposed. But NO one had legs, everyone was floating around, playing, laughing.
***
Then P recalls that R was trying to splash him, and P was saying playfully “woah, don’t do that!” P described how he was in himself. He couldn’t see himself but he was looking through his own eyes taking it all in. P recalls that he had legs, I think. P felt like he wasn’t really supposed to be there.
***

***
P remembers that he was suddenly crying. P noticed there was a tunnel and that he felt he had to leave at this point. He felt he was being told he had to go. In the tunnel he was now in a flow of people were coming towards him, but he was the only person who could go the other direction through the tunnel.
***
P’s friend R was trying to follow him, but he was like slow racing behind him like someone trying to swim through treacle.
***
R was laughing his head off, and he was very ecstatic even though he couldn’t move further through the tunnel.
***
P just remembered looking back and sort of waving I suppose saying goodbye. He woke up absolutely sobbing. It all felt so real. When P woke up. It felt like the strangest of things and he recalled everything, the feeling of the place, the sights and the fact that there was no smell – but remembered the feeling of the whole place.
***
P recalls that since then before going to sleep he’s been excited wishing that going could go back there again. He enjoyed it, really loved it. And it was so nice to see his friend R once again.
***
Another example of this type of experience happened to my wife when she was in her early teens.
***
Although not on the same level these Out of Body Experiences show that world beyond the bodies we occupy transcend our consciousness as we know it
***
She recalls watching the TV with her mum in the living room when she went to go up the stairs to her room. She had a funny experience whilst on the first or second step of the staircase and felt like she was going to fall. The next thing she remembers is she is looking through a pair of eyes near the ceiling on the upstairs landing looking down at herself holding on to the spindles in the staircase as her body shook from side to side.
***
She tried to call out to her mum who was still in the living room watching TV but no words would fall from her mouth. The next thing she recalls is waking up at the top of the staircase landing holding onto the two of the spindles of the staircase, wondering how on earth she had managed to get there.
***
Out of Body Experiences (OBEs) challenge our everyday understanding of personal space and self-awareness. They challenge our beliefs and understanding of our consciousness beyond the physical body that we live in.
***
We should be open to help from others as well as to the possibilities beyond our current understanding.
