What brings you joy? I know it sounds like a simple question but in reality it’s not so easy to answer.
Many of us have lost sight of what brings us real happiness. I mean the type of happiness that makes you want to jump up and down on the spot because you are so giddy. Sadly we spend a lot of our time “keeping up with the Jones” or trying to please others and ensure their happiness. Often putting our own happiness on the backburner or even participating in things that may not “sit well” with us to keep the peace and the boat bobbing along.
Well here is a revelation for you, it is NOT your job to make others happy, your job is to make sure that you are happy. And yes you guessed it nobody else is here to make you happy either, that’s all on you baby. We are all responsible for our own happiness and this can be a frightening realisation. We so often blame others for our own unhappiness when in reality we are the ones keeping ourselves in a situation or are reluctant to take the leap of faith needed to move us towards our goal/happiness.
I know this can be a tough one to get your head around because we are programmed from an early age to believe that we have to take on the role of people pleaser to be a nice and kind person. I’m sorry but, no not true, fake news! You can be a kind and loving person all the while living a life that is fulfilling and true to who you are inside.
Ok so just sit and think of a time when you have done something to make someone else happy and it has made you feel uncomfortable, we have all at some point done this and to be frank it feels pretty rubbish and we are usually left beating ourselves up for not staying true to our values. Answer me this, what do you think this does to your vibration?
You’re right, it lowers it and just like we are responsible for the happiness in our lives we are also responsible for the vibration we put out into the world. For us to live a truly joyous life we need loving, healthy, truthful energy within.
I am certain that nobody wants to be unhappy and we all strive for happiness in life but how do we get it? By having excessive amounts of money? Through consumerism? Being social media famous? I think not!
The key to understanding our own happiness is by learning to listen to our hearts over our head. You hear people say it all the time “what is your gut instinct?” this is basically what I am talking about. When we lead with our gut/heart (it sounds nicer) it gives you a sense of deeper understanding and total bliss. We are all born with this knowing, an intrinsic knowledge, but somewhere along the way we stop listening.
When we learn to listen to our heart and what it is telling us and have the courage to act on it then we will experience true joy.
My hope for this June is that we all learn to listen to our hearts and that our spirit grows in joy.
Peace, love and harmony
