HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) for Stroke Prevention and Recovery
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, also known as HBOT, has a massive variety of applications due to the key role that oxygen has within the body and for cellular repair and functionality.
Due to HBOT’s remarkable benefits to brain injury, we’re often asked how the oxygen chambers can help with stroke patients and also for patients with the potential for suffering a stroke (such as those experiencing TIA’s, or have clotting conditions that may lead to stroke).
HBOT has fantastic stroke prevention properties and also stroke recovery benefits due to the increase of oxygen to the brain tissue, which helps with brain cell repair, increased blood flow to the brain, and aids in a thing called biogenesis (which is a term for the generation of new cells and mitochondria from older cells).
Research has shown that the increased oxygen levels within the brain provided by HBOT also reduces what’s known as ‘thrombocyte adhesion’, which helps to prevent the formation of clots within the brain that would otherwise lead to stroke.
These key factors of HBOT, in that it is able to help with brain cell recovery, increase blood flow to the brain, and also the reduce likelihood of blood clots within the brain, demonstrate the great effects that oxygen therapy can have on those who have either suffered stroke, or have the potential of doing so.
At Concordia Clinic we have two Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers – a lie down chamber, and a seated chamber. We have provided almost 4000 HBOT hours to over 320 different patients who’ve had a wide range of health concerns from various types of cancers, dementia, brain injury, to external injuries and athlete recovery.
We also greatly advocate that no ‘one thing’ is the way forward. We have a team of practitioners  and specialists who can help advise other avenues for health and wellbeing, such as advising on lifestyle and nutrition to help maintain a healthy mind and body.
If you do have any questions then please get in touch with us at the clinic or speak with John at the LifeBalance “Day of Healing”.  For more information please see the links below.
