The Fleck: This is one of those articles that will be helpful to all and any on a spiritual path, especially those on a yoga path. It will also be helpful for those who are finding their own path, trying this and trying that. Those of us who have got things wrong, taken a few wrong turns, this will help give us encouragement to keep on moving forward regardless of how hard it is.
What is a fleck? The dictionary states it is a small bit, a speck as in a speck of dirt, it can also mean a patch of colour or Light. Keeping this in mind. How is the fleck a helpful aid? In fact, just like our own egos, it can be our worst friend or best training partner to bring out the best in us.
Not only will it help us find our light, but it will help us feel the light. When we begin to feel the light everything changes. How we react, how we act, how we behave, how we deal with adversity, pain suffering. We will take more from life than ever before.
We have already alluded to much of this in our articles on the Iris (we will put the links below). We all know what an eye is, but what about the inner (I). Is it the ego or are we talking about the spirit, the light within or how we perceive the external or physical world. Maybe we are talking about how the external world influences our actions, thoughts and feelings.
Many of our readers will know that the eyes are the windows of the soul, as the ears are the doors. We must be careful what we let in, what influences us. As our bodies are our vessels for this incarnation, we must be aware of pirates wanting to take control and steer un into dangerous waters! What we mean by this is what we see and hear but we will focus on the fleck.
Yeshua explained this spiritual truth very simply.
“Why do you look at the fleck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye”.
We all have faults so before we look at another, we look at our own first. We do not judge but this can be hard, just like forgiveness. However, each one of us is on our own unique spiritual path, with tests and lessons. Sometimes we just need to make allowances, again this can be difficult. It may also be a test for us not to judge or see a small part of something bigger.
Life is tough, we can be hurt, frustrated, betrayed, angry all of these aspects can become the fleck in our eye. Yes, the fleck can be many things. Yes, just as we can have a mark in our eye that stops looking at something clearly. In the same breath (remember when we talk of breath we are talking of spirit). These flecks can stop us connecting to our breath.
Just to be clear when we are born and we take our first breath, this is the spirit entering the body. For all who undertake breath work there is a different and deeper connection here. Reading warrior pose part 12 link below will be useful.
Going back to our fleck, this stops us seeing clearly. We may not see what is in front of us. A fleck is not just a physical thing, it can be a mental thing, it can be a personal challenge, it could be one of the seven deadly sins as they say. Bad things in life can happen that shape and destroy our perception of the world, but also trap us in the physical so we cannot look inward. We can become trapped in the physical by what we see and the emotions and desires this creates.
However as much as it can hinder us and trap us in negative emotions and unseen spiritual warfare, it can be our best friend and training partner to connect to what is within.
The fleck can help us find, feel and share our light.
We can see clearly, we can see clear sighted.
We can interpret the world by the (I) of spirit,
Free from physical emotions that put the fleck back.
The truth is, the fleck is telling us to look inward, to look at situations through the lens of spirit. When we look from a perspective of the light within, what we see, and feel is not the same as when we look with our physical eyes and (I) physical self. The fleck can also stop us from becoming illuminated just as it can stop us connecting with others by putting barriers and hurdles on our road to peace.
The fleck can interfere with our peace, but if we have another window to look through a clearer window. A window full of light we can see sharper and clearer, we can understand the situation and feeling in a different way, from a new angle or perspective. The view without emotion can provide a different context, create tolerance, patience, understanding and forgiveness. These things just happen, it is not hard, difficult, nor troublesome.
Simply put, when our windows are clean, we can let more light in. The light of knowledge and wisdom. In other words, enlightenment makes things easier. This light brings with it the qualities of the Peaceful Warrior, undisturbed or troubled by what we see, hear, think or feel. We just improve and, in that improvement, we create peace for ourselves by control of our vessels.
For those who are not aware of the qualities of the peaceful warrior (they can be found in our series on the warrior pose). Here is the thing, the fleck can stop us connecting things, it can create blockages, it can create an impasse but if we use the path of the peaceful warrior or the humble warrior, the light does not distort our vision, it makes allowances and adjusts. Our vision, our (I) develops, our opticks refine, allowing us to see the full spectrum.
It helps us understand.
We will continue this subject but for now it is good enough just to think about the fleck, how it creates a barrier to light. We will finish with a lovely French expression.
“Tout comprendre, C’est tout pardoner
To understand All, is to forgive All.
The fleck stops us understanding, connecting, feeling and trapping us in the physical mind. Once we know it is there, we can use it to help us progress, the lesson to help us improve, to consider our thoughts and actions. To take a step back! It doesn’t matter how long it takes us, if we win some or lose some, it is there to help us grow and create our own peace.
Remember, All is in the All.
